How to Remove Google FRP Lock Before Selling Your Android Phone
If you factory reset your Android phone without removing your Google account first, the phone gets stuck at a "Verify your account" screen after reset. This is called FRP โ Factory Reset Protection โ and it's designed to stop thieves from using stolen phones. But it also stops buyback services from accepting the device. Here's how to properly remove it before selling.
What is FRP and why it matters
Every Android phone with a Google account has FRP enabled automatically. It activates when someone factory resets the phone through Recovery Mode (the hardware button method) without first removing the Google account through Settings. After the reset, the phone shows a "Verify your account" screen that requires the original Google email and password.
For a buyback service like Berry Nice, a phone with FRP lock is a phone we cannot buy. We have no way to bypass FRP (nor would we want to โ it exists to protect owners from theft). The responsibility is on you to remove it before selling.
The correct order: remove accounts FIRST, then reset
This is the key point. The order matters:
- Step 1: Remove your Google account (this disables FRP)
- Step 2: Remove any manufacturer account (Samsung, Xiaomi Mi, OPPO, etc.)
- Step 3: Factory reset the phone
If you do Step 3 first without doing Steps 1 and 2, you trigger FRP lock.
How to remove your Google account (all Android phones)
- Go to Settings โ Accounts (or Users & accounts)
- Tap your Google account
- Tap Remove account
- Confirm the removal
- Repeat if you have multiple Google accounts on the device
Brand-specific accounts to remove
Besides Google, each brand has its own account that also needs to be removed:
- Samsung: Settings โ Accounts โ Samsung account โ Sign out. Also disable Find My Mobile (Settings โ Biometrics and security โ Find My Mobile)
- Xiaomi: Settings โ Mi Account โ Sign out
- OPPO: Settings โ OPPO Account โ Sign out
- vivo: Settings โ vivo Account โ Sign out
- Huawei: Settings โ Huawei ID โ Sign out
- OnePlus: Generally uses Google account only, but check Settings โ Accounts for any OnePlus-specific accounts
How to factory reset after removing accounts
Once all accounts are removed, factory reset through Settings (not Recovery Mode):
- Samsung: Settings โ General Management โ Reset โ Factory data reset
- Xiaomi: Settings โ About phone โ Factory reset
- OPPO: Settings โ System Settings โ Reset Phone
- vivo: Settings โ System Management โ Reset โ Erase All Data
- Huawei: Settings โ System & updates โ Reset โ Factory data reset
- OnePlus: Settings โ System Settings โ Reset Phone
After reset, the phone should boot to the welcome/setup screen without asking for any account verification. That means FRP is properly cleared.
What if you already triggered FRP?
If you already factory reset without removing accounts and the phone is now stuck on "Verify your account":
- Enter the Google email and password that was previously on the device
- Complete the setup process
- Go to Settings โ Accounts and remove the Google account properly
- Remove any manufacturer account
- Factory reset again through Settings
If you cannot remember the Google account credentials, you will need to recover your account at accounts.google.com before you can proceed. There is no legitimate way to bypass FRP without the original account.

What is FRP?+
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is a Google security feature on all Android phones. If someone factory resets the phone without signing out of the Google account first, the phone requires that same Google account to be entered again before it can be used. It prevents stolen phones from being wiped and resold.
Can Berry Nice remove FRP for me?+
No โ FRP can only be properly removed by the account holder (you). We cannot bypass FRP, and we will not buy a device that has FRP lock active. You must remove your Google account before factory resetting.
I already factory reset without removing my Google account. What now?+
You'll need to enter the original Google account credentials (email and password) on the setup screen to get past FRP. Once in, add the account back, then remove it properly through Settings, then factory reset again.
Does Samsung have an additional lock besides FRP?+
Yes โ Samsung has its own Samsung Account lock (Find My Mobile / reactivation lock). You need to sign out of BOTH your Samsung account and Google account before factory resetting. Otherwise either lock can prevent resale.
What if I forgot my Google password?+
Go to accounts.google.com on a computer and use the account recovery process. Once you regain access, sign into the phone, remove the account from Settings, then factory reset properly.
