How to Prepare a vivo Phone Before Selling

vivo and iQOO phones run Funtouch OS (or OriginOS) on top of Android, so they carry two locks you must clear before selling: your vivo account and the Google account that powers Factory Reset Protection (FRP). Skip either and the next owner gets stuck after the reset, which means the phone is hard to resell and your quote drops. Here's the right order, plus what to back up first.

Why preparation matters when selling a vivo

A vivo phone has two account locks that can brick the device for the next owner if you leave them in place:

  • Google account (FRP):Android's Factory Reset Protection demands the last signed-in Google account after a reset. No credentials, no setup.
  • vivo account: controls cloud backup, Find Device, and store purchases. Left signed in, it keeps your data reachable and ties the phone to your identity.

Clear both beforeyou reset and the handover is clean. Doing it in the wrong order is the single most common mistake we see, and it can cost you the sale. When you're ready, you can sell your vivo phone to Berry Nice for cash once it's reset properly.

Step 1: Back up what you want to keep

A reset erases everything on the device, so save your data first:

  1. Photos & videos: back up with Google Photos (Settings → Google → Backup) or copy them to a computer over USB.
  2. Contacts & calendar: sync to your Google account so they reappear on your next phone automatically.
  3. WhatsApp: open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup and back up to Google Drive before resetting.
  4. vivo Cloud: if you use it, confirm your backup is complete in your vivo account settings.
  5. 2FA apps: move authenticator codes (Google Authenticator, etc.) to your new phone before wiping, or you may get locked out of accounts.

Back up first, verify it, then reset. Never the other way around.

Step 2: Turn off Find Device

vivo's Find Device keeps the phone tied to your vivo account. Switch it off before the reset:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your vivo account at the top (or Cloud)
  3. Find Find Device and toggle it off

Menu names differ a little between Funtouch OS and OriginOS versions, but the toggle always lives under your vivo account or Cloud settings.

Step 3: Sign out of your vivo account

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your vivo account at the top
  3. Scroll down and tap Sign out (or Log out)
  4. Confirm with your vivo account password

Step 4: Remove your Google account (the FRP step)

This is the step that prevents an FRP lockout. Do not skip it.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Accounts & sync (or Users & accounts)
  3. Tap your Google account
  4. Tap Remove account and confirm
  5. If you have more than one Google account, remove all of them

Step 5: Factory reset the vivo

With both accounts removed, you're safe to wipe:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap System management (or System) → Backup & reset
  3. Tap Erase all data (factory reset)
  4. Confirm and enter your lock screen PIN/password

The phone reboots and erases, usually 5–10 minutes. Keep the battery above 50% and don't interrupt it. When it finishes you'll see the vivo welcome screen.

Step 6: Verify FRP is off

After the reset, walk through setup until you connect to Wi-Fi. If the phone lets you continue and set up as new, FRP is off and you're good. If it asks for "a Google account that was previously synced on this device," Step 4 was missed, sign in with your old Google account, sign out again, then finish setup or re-reset.

What to hand over for the best quote

  • The phone, reset to the welcome screen with FRP verified off
  • Original charger and cable if you have them
  • Original box (helps, especially for newer models)
  • Any case or screen protector you no longer need

One reminder on locks: we buy vivo and other Android brands, but we cannot accept telco-locked Androidphones, so make sure yours works with any SIM. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to remove my Google account from a vivo before resetting?+

Yes. This is the most important step. If a Google account is still signed in when you factory reset, Android's Factory Reset Protection (FRP) will demand that exact Google login on the next setup. Without it, the phone is locked and unsellable. Always remove the Google account in Settings before you reset.

What is a vivo account and do I have to sign out of it?+

The vivo account ties cloud backup, Find Device, the V-Appstore, and theme purchases to you. Sign out before selling so the next owner cannot reach your data and you stop getting their notifications. On older models it may be called the vivo Cloud account.

Does vivo have its own Find Device lock?+

Yes. vivo's Find Device (sometimes under Cloud) works like a tracker tied to your vivo account. Turn it off before resetting, otherwise it can keep the device linked to you. Settings vary slightly by Funtouch OS / OriginOS version, but it lives under your vivo account or Cloud settings.

Will a factory reset wipe everything from my vivo?+

Yes, a factory data reset erases all apps, photos, messages, and settings from the phone's storage. That's why you back up first. Modern vivo phones are encrypted by default, so once reset and verified to the welcome screen, your data is not recoverable by the next owner.

Do you buy vivo phones in Malaysia?+

Yes. Berry Nice buys vivo and iQOO phones along with all major Android brands. We do not accept telco-locked Android phones, so make sure your vivo works with any SIM. WhatsApp us your model, storage, and condition for an estimated quote before you come in.
