How to Sell Your Company's Old Phones & Laptops in Malaysia
When a company refreshes its devices, the old fleet usually ends up in a storeroom β depreciating to zero while taking up space. Selling those phones and laptops in bulk recovers real value, but it needs more care than a personal sale: account releases, MDM removal, data handling, and paperwork for the accounts team. Here's the process, step by step.
Why selling beats storing (or scrapping)
Used phones and laptops are depreciating assets β every quarter in a storeroom costs real money. A three-year-old laptop fleet still has meaningful resale value today; the same fleet two years later may be worth close to nothing. Compare the options:
- Buyback (value recovery): devices are inspected, priced per unit, and paid for. The company recovers cash and the devices get a second life.
- E-waste disposal: appropriate for genuinely end-of-life hardware, but it recovers no value β and sometimes costs money. Many fleets sent to e-waste still contain sellable units.
- Storage: the default, and the worst option β value decays while risk (lost devices, lingering data) stays.
A sensible policy: sell what has value, e-waste only what truly doesn't.
Step 1: Build a device list
Before contacting any buyer, inventory what you have. For each unit, note:
- Model and year (e.g. iPhone 14 128GB, ThinkPad T14 Gen 3, MacBook Air M2)
- Storage / RAM spec where relevant
- Working condition: fully working, minor faults, or dead
- Whether the unit powers on and can be signed out of accounts
- Accessories available (chargers, boxes)
This list is what gets you a useful estimated quote instead of a vague range.
Step 2: Release devices from company management
This is the step companies most often miss, and it blocks the sale entirely if skipped:
- MDM / device management: remove each device from your MDM (Intune, Jamf, Apple Business Manager, etc.). A device still enrolled in management cannot be cleanly transferred to a new owner.
- iCloud / Activation Lock: sign out of any Apple IDs and turn off Find My. An iCloud-locked device is unsellable β this is an absolute rule, with no exceptions.
- Google / Samsung accounts (FRP): remove accounts from Android devices before resetting, or the next setup will demand the old credentials.
- BIOS / firmware passwords on laptops: clear them β a locked BIOS significantly reduces what a buyer can pay.
Step 3: Handle the data properly
Data handling is the part your IT and compliance teams will care about most, so be clear about who does what:
- Your side: back up anything the company needs, then sign out of accounts. If your policy requires certified data destruction, run your own certified erasure tooling before handover β buyback shops, including us, do a thorough factory reset but do not issue data-destruction certificates.
- Our side: every device we buy is factory reset before resale, removing user data and accounts. For most SMEs a proper sign-out plus factory reset is sufficient; regulated industries should follow their own erasure standard first.
Step 4: Get a quote and arrange handover
- WhatsApp the device list β model, spec, condition per unit. You get an estimated breakdown based on current market prices.
- Agree on handover: collection is available for selected Klang Valley areas; otherwise deliver to our Sentul shop or send by insured courier.
- Each unit is physically inspected and the final price confirmed per device β same transparent process as a walk-in sale.
- Payment by bank transfer or DuitNow, and an official invoice for your accounts department on request.

What realistic expectations look like
Not every unit in a fleet has value, and an honest buyer will say so. Expect working recent-generation devices to carry most of the payout, older units to fetch modest amounts, and some dead units to be worth little or nothing. iCloud-locked devices can't be bought at all, telco-locked Android devices are not accepted, and Samsung units with cracked screens usually aren't taken. Getting the lock and account releases done before inspection is the single biggest thing you can do to maximise the total.

WhatsApp Berry NiceFrequently asked questions
Do you provide a data destruction certificate?+
No. We perform a thorough factory reset on every device, which removes user data and accounts, but we do not run certified data-destruction software or issue destruction certificates. If your compliance policy requires certified erasure, wipe the devices internally with your own tooling before handover.
Can you collect devices from our office?+
Yes, for selected areas in the Klang Valley. For locations outside our collection coverage, you can arrange delivery to our Sentul shop or use an insured courier. Mention your location in WhatsApp and we will confirm whether collection is available.
Can we get an official invoice for our accounts department?+
Yes β an official invoice is available on request. Berry Nice is SSM-registered (202301002080), so the transaction can be properly documented for your asset disposal records.
Do you take devices that are old, damaged, or not turning on?+
Often yes β mixed-condition lots are normal in fleet sales. Working devices carry most of the value; damaged or dead units are assessed individually and some may have parts value. iCloud-locked devices are the exception: we cannot buy those at any price.
How is a bulk quote different from a single-device quote?+
The process is the same β model, spec, condition β applied per unit. Send a device list (model, storage, condition notes) and we respond with an estimated breakdown. Final pricing follows physical inspection of each unit, same as a walk-in sale.
