How to Prepare a OnePlus Phone Before Selling

Why preparation matters for OnePlus

Two things can lock a OnePlus after a reset if you skip the steps:

• Google account (FRP): if a Google account was signed in before the wipe, OxygenOS demands those exact credentials on setup. No credentials = a dead phone for the next owner.
• OnePlus account (OnePlus ID): ties OnePlus Cloud, Find Device, and Clone Phone backups to you. Left signed in, the next owner can see traces of your data and you keep getting notifications.

Step 1: Back up what you want to keep

Once you wipe, on-device data is gone. Back up first:

1. Google backup: Settings → System → Backup → turn on Backup by Google One. This covers apps, call history, contacts, and settings. Photos sync via Google Photos.
2. OnePlus Clone Phone: if you are moving to another OnePlus/OPPO, use Clone Phone to transfer everything directly.
3. WhatsApp: open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup → Back up to Google Drive, then verify it completed.

3. Open Find Device settings and turn it off

Step 3: Remove your Google account (the FRP step)

This is the most important step. Removing the Google account before the reset switches FRP off for the next owner.

1. Open Settings
2. Tap Accounts (or Users & accounts)
3. Tap your Google account
4. Tap Remove account
5. Confirm with your phone PIN/pattern if asked

If you have more than one Google account signed in (personal + work), remove all of them.

Step 4: Remove screen lock and other accounts

• Screen lock:Settings → Security & lock screen → set the lock to None so the new owner is not blocked.
• Other accounts: remove any Samsung Health, banking, or social logins you do not want transferred.
• Remove the SIM and memory card before you hand the phone over.

Step 5: Factory reset your OnePlus

Now that accounts are detached, it is safe to wipe:

1. Open Settings
2. Tap System settings → Reset options (or Back up and reset)
3. Tap Erase all data (factory reset)
4. Tap Erase all data and enter your PIN if prompted
5. Confirm and let the phone reboot and erase

The reset takes a few minutes. Keep the phone plugged in or above 50% battery, and do not power it off mid-wipe.

Step 6: Verify FRP is off before you sell

• Walk through setup until the Wi-Fi screen and connect
• FRP off:you reach "set up as new" with no demand for a previous Google account, the phone is ready
• FRP on:it asks for "a Google account previously synced", meaning Step 3 was missed

If FRP is still on, sign in with your old Google account to clear it, sign out, and reset again from Step 3.
