How to Prepare an OPPO Phone Before Selling

OPPO phones run ColorOS, which ties two separate accounts to the device: your Google account (which triggers Factory Reset Protection) and your OPPO/HeyTap account (which powers Find Device and cloud backup). Remove both in the right order before you reset, or the next owner hits a lock screen and the phone becomes unsellable. Here's the full checklist, in the order that actually works.

Two accounts can lock an OPPO after reset

Before you touch the reset button, understand what can go wrong. An OPPO phone can be locked by two different account systems after a factory reset:

  • Google account (FRP): if a Google account is signed in when you reset, ColorOS will demand those exact credentials on the next setup. No credentials means the phone is unusable.
  • OPPO/HeyTap account (Find Device):OPPO's own anti-theft tracking. Leave it on and the new owner can be blocked, and you'll keep receiving notifications tied to your account.

Remove both before the reset and there is nothing to lock. The whole process takes about ten minutes if you follow the order below.

Step 1: Back up what you want to keep

A factory reset erases everything on the device. Decide what to save first:

  1. Photos and videos:back up to Google Photos (Settings → Google → Backup) or copy them to a computer via USB cable.
  2. Contacts and calendar: sync to your Google account so they reappear on your next phone automatically.
  3. WhatsApp:open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup and back up to Google Drive before you reset.
  4. Clone Phone:if you're moving to a new OPPO or another Android, OPPO's Clone Phone app transfers everything directly between devices.

Back up first, verify the backup, then reset. Never flip that order.

Step 2: Turn off Find Device and sign out of HeyTap

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your name / OPPO account at the top
  3. Open Find Device and toggle it off
  4. Go back, scroll down and tap Sign Out
  5. Enter your HeyTap password to confirm

On some ColorOS versions Find Device sits under Settings → Privacy or Settings → Security. If you can't find it, search "Find Device" in the Settings search bar.

Step 3: Remove your Google account

This is the step that switches off FRP for the next owner.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Users & accounts (or Accounts)
  3. Tap your Google account
  4. Tap Remove account and confirm

If you have more than one Google account signed in, remove all of them.

Step 4: Remove screen lock and disconnect wearables

Turn off your PIN, pattern or fingerprint lock (Settings → Password & security) so the phone boots straight to setup after the reset. If you have an OPPO Watch or Enco earbuds paired, unpair them in the HeyTap Health or Bluetooth settings so you can re-pair them to your next phone.

Step 5: Factory reset the phone

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap System settings (or Additional settings)
  3. Tap Back up and reset
  4. Tap Reset phoneErase all data
  5. Confirm and enter your lock screen password if prompted

The phone wipes and reboots to the welcome screen, usually within 5–10 minutes. Don't interrupt it.

Step 6: Verify the reset worked

After the reboot, tap through setup until you reach the Wi-Fi screen and connect. If the phone lets you continue to "set up as new" without asking for a previous Google account, FRP is off and you're done. If it demands "a Google account that was previously synced," Step 3 was missed, sign in with that account to clear it, then sign out and finish, or reset again from Step 3.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to remove my Google account before resetting an OPPO?+

Yes. Like every Android phone, OPPO uses Google's Factory Reset Protection (FRP). If a Google account is still signed in when you reset, the phone will demand those exact credentials on the next setup. Remove the Google account in Settings before you do the factory reset, and FRP turns off for the next owner.

What is the OPPO/HeyTap account and why does it matter?+

HeyTap is OPPO's own account system. It runs Find Device (OPPO's anti-theft tracking), Cloud backup, and the App Market. If you leave it signed in, the new owner could be blocked by Find Device and you keep getting notifications tied to your identity. Sign out of HeyTap and turn off Find Device before resetting.

Does Berry Nice buy OPPO phones?+

Yes, we buy OPPO across the Reno, Find, A and F series. The main requirement is that the phone is fully reset with both Google and HeyTap accounts removed, and it must not be telco-locked. We don't take telco-locked Android. Send your model, storage and condition over WhatsApp for an estimated quote.

Will a factory reset remove my Google FRP lock automatically?+

No, that's the most common mistake. A factory reset does NOT remove FRP if the Google account is still on the device. You must remove the Google account first, then reset. If you reset while still signed in, you'll need to sign back in with that same Google account to clear the lock.

How long does it take to reset an OPPO phone?+

The reset itself takes about 5–10 minutes, plus a few minutes to reboot to the welcome screen. Removing both accounts beforehand takes another 5 minutes. Keep the battery above 50% and stay on Wi-Fi while you remove the accounts so the changes sync.
